For Canadians & US Citizens Buying Jewelry
Is there a dis-advantage buying jewelry in US$ or CAD$ ?
Here are some facts to consider!
All jewelers purchase their Gemstones, metal settings and jewelry on the international market in US$. The store selling in CAD$ will convert their cost and mark-up from US$ to CAD$ result is no big price difference.
The main difference in buying from a store in Canada, USA or any world Country is mark-up. How much does the seller need to pay rent & expenses and how much profit to take.
At Landeau we purchase our Gemstones on the world market but 95% of our metal settings are purchased in the USA as well as 70% of our finished jewelry.
Conclusion: when you see prices in US$ these would be the same only converted to CAD$.
Duties: Most jewelry purchases from Canada,USA and Mexico are part of the Free Trade Agreement which means little to no duties.
One Caveat: when the seller ships with carriers: DHL, Fedex,UPS, Puralator, etc. you will be charged duties. I always request to use the Postal System they will not rip-you off like carriers. The duties they charge in 90% of the time do not exist, it really is an addition to shipping fees.
